Spring Summer 2018
For his Spring Summer 2018, Delpozo’s creative director, Josep Font, turns
to the senses from inspiration of self-taught Slovakian photographer Maria
Svarbova’s “Swimming pools” series, alongside the crisp music of bon vivant
composer Xavier Cugat.
While listening to the Spanish Cugat, Font was transported to the historic
graceful soirées at the Waldorf Astoria and lazy summer afternoons by the
pool, giving the collection a refreshing musical flow. A wide range of circular
silhouettes with curved seams in skirts and tops; dresses, sculpted at the waist;
ruffles cascading with their own delicate rhythm; pleats and flounces in bow
and petal shapes as if the wind has blown over and had them land, carefully, on
necklines and shoulders; and the Muguet sleeve, voluminous yet weightless.
The swimming pools evoked in Svarbova’s photography, caught Font’s eye for
their pure color proportion and Art Nouveau elements. Her eerie aesthetic
with a surreal twist translates into the collection’s smooth color palette. The
stillness and minimal geometry of these pools create an intimate atmosphere just
like Delpozo’s atelier. The tiles inspire the geometric print of the fil coupé that
becomes an asymmetrical cocktail dress tied with a bright yellow bow.
The neutral color palette, with hues of warm sand, delicate ivory and white
embroideries are the base for a musical season filled with colorful prints in
cotton and a reinterpretation of paisley in silk gazar with shades of red, yellow,
orange, turquoise, powder pink and opal green. Even a swimming pool blue
ripples into the color hues. The silvery gleam of the water reflections embodies
part of the evening wear and embroidery. Knitwear filled with feathers becomes
fluffy and light, like a summer evening breeze.
The Bow silhouette, a staple of the house, carries on for spring and is reimagined
in patchwork and in raffia; a natural yet raw material which becomes gentle with
the collection’s Bow turbans. Refreshing embroideries of exotic flora are inspired
by the Diphylleia, a flower that turns translucent when it rains.
As Xavier Cugat made women dance during those summer evenings, Josep Font
makes them want to dance in Delpozo’s Spring Summer 2018 collection.
